Biography

"It's hard to get used to the lack of normal living conditions when you're over 70," said Yuriy Sergeechev while in jail. A disabled person of group III, who suffered two heart attacks, ended up there after a search of his home.

Yuriy was born in March 1951 in a large family in the village of Sokolayevka, Oryol region. His parents worked on a collective farm. They had five children. His father died early, and his mother lived 84 years.

In his youth, Yuriy was fond of playing the guitar, wrote poetry and participated in amateur performances. After school, he graduated from a technical school with a degree in electrician, and later from Rostov State University, where he received the profession of psychologist. Yuri worked as the director of the rural House of Pioneers, then as a mechanic in the Kuban Water Administration.

Since childhood, Yuriy believed in God, but, according to him, he really felt spiritual refreshment when he began to read the Bible. "I finally began to receive answers to my questions," the believer recalls.

In 1991, Yuriy married Antonina, and in 1993 he was baptized. At that time, he lived in Adygeysk and became the first Jehovah's Witness in this city. His wife supported his interest in the spiritual and in 1994 she was also baptized. Antonina is an economist by education and a creative person. In her youth, she learned to play the accordion on her own and participated in music competitions.

Before their arrest, the couple led a busy life. They organized intellectual evenings for family and friends with quizzes and mini-performances, they liked to be in nature, fishing and making gifts from natural materials. Yuriy made a fountain and a decorative fireplace with his own hands. The spouses were often visited by their granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

In April 2025, FSB officers came to the Sergeechevs' house, searched and took Yuriy away. He was imprisoned in a pre-trial detention center, despite his serious health condition: he has diabetes mellitus, poor eyesight and a leg disease that causes him to move with a cane.

Relatives sympathize with the Sergeechevs and are surprised at their steadfastness and courage. Neighbors are perplexed: "Why could such a law-abiding person be arrested?"

Case History

At the end of April 2025, searches were conducted in the homes of two believers from Adygeysk, Aleksey Dmitriyev and Yuriy Sergeechev. The latter is a disabled person of group III and before his arrest was treated for heart problems. The investigator accused the believers of involving a local resident in an extremist organization because they discussed the Bible with him. The court placed both in a pre-trial detention center. Later, the investigator seized Aleksey Dmitriyev’s car. The court proceedings began in July 2025.
